Councillor Chushul, Shri Konchok Stanzin, concluded his three-day tour of Chushul village today, extending heartfelt thanks to all village representatives including the Nambardar, former Sarpanch, VEC members, Youth President, Women President, and villagers for their unwavering support over the last ten years. He also engaged in detailed discussions on various village issues and future development priorities.
During the gathering, Councillor Stanzin presented his Ten-Year Development Report Card, highlighting the remarkable progress achieved across multiple sectors. He described his decade-long tenure as “A Decade of Development” – “Das Saal Bemisaal”, showcasing the transformation of Chushul into one of the most progressive regions in Ladakh.
In the education sector, he noted the upgradation of the High School to Higher Secondary level, sanctioning of residential facilities for high school students, and continuous improvement of educational infrastructure. Several new projects are also underway to enhance the quality of education in the region.
In the health sector, Councillor Stanzin informed that the new PHC Hospital Building worth ₹9 crore will be commissioned in the next working season, marking a major milestone in the health infrastructure of the region. Additionally, staff quarters with modern amenities are being developed under the Special Development Package (SDP), ensuring better facilities for health workers and residents alike.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), every household in Chushul has received tap water connections, achieving 100% saturation and improving public health and sanitation standards.
Chushul also witnessed major progress in financial inclusion. During his tenure, banking facilities were established in the village under the USB (Ultra Small Business Unit) Programme J&K Bank, ensuring that villagers now receive banking and financial services within their own village without the need to travel long distances.
In terms of connectivity, Chushul now enjoys 4G and 5G network access with the installation of BSNL, Airtel, and Jio mobile towers, ensuring digital inclusion for all residents. Furthermore, link roads have been completed in every mohalla, connecting five major locations with durable, high-quality roads.
On community and cultural infrastructure, he highlighted that community infrastructures and monastic developments have flourished over the last decade. Chushul has also become a model for afforestation, achieving record plantation rates with full support for fencing and water facilities under the Go Green Go Organic initiative.
An Animal Care Centre has been sanctioned under the Vibrant Village Programme, alongside numerous sheep husbandry projects to strengthen the livelihood of pastoral communities.
In the women empowerment sector, a Women Craft Centre was established, providing skill training to local women under the Looms of Ladakh initiative — a brand now recognized across Ladakh and beyond.
On sports infrastructure, Councillor Stanzin announced that construction of an indoor stadium and a world-class ice hockey rink is in progress, aiming to promote youth engagement and sports tourism.
He further noted that saturated solar water heaters (100 and 200 litres) have been provided to every household, ensuring energy sustainability. He reaffirmed that all government schemes have been implemented impartially and transparently.
He also emphasized that along with government initiatives, numerous non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been brought into the village under his leadership to work in diverse fields for community welfare. NGOs such as Royal Enfield, Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF), Snow Leopard Conservancy, Pathfinders, ICICI Foundation, Ladakh Nomadic Project (LNP), Samaarambh Foundation, 17000ft Foundation, HDFC, Tata Trusts, and HIMATHON are now actively working across Chushul Constituency for the betterment of border villages, supporting projects related to education, livelihood, environment, and sustainable tourism.
Councillor Stanzin also spoke about his efforts in highlighting border issues at national and international platforms, bringing significant attention to the challenges faced by border residents. Under his tenure, Chushul has become a focal point of national dialogue on border development and resilience.
Reflecting on his role as Executive Councillor, he emphasized his strong collaboration with the Indian Army, which has yielded tangible benefits for border villages. At his request, the Army has initiated plans to conduct Sainik School coaching for Durbuk Block, a major contribution to human resource development.
He further mentioned that rationalisation under the Wildlife Sanctuary Act is essential for future settlement and development, as no formal settlement has taken place since 1910 due to wildlife restrictions.
Councillor Stanzin also outlined his contributions to regional planning — including the Changthang Development Project, DPR for Transmission Lines in Eastern Ladakh, DPR for the PHC Tangste Hospital Building, regulation of residential schools, and enhancement of diet charges in residential hostels in Leh District.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the people, assuring that all ongoing projects initiated during his tenure will be completed and handed over to the public, irrespective of election outcomes.
Addressing the growing potential of border tourism, he said that more local livelihood activities must be created so that communities can directly benefit from tourism. He reiterated his youth-centric and people-first approach, urging that future initiatives focus on youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods to ensure local retention and growth.
Village Nambardar, Shri Sonam Angchuk, extended his gratitude to Councillor Stanzin for his dedicated and visionary leadership, and requested him to ensure completion of pending works.
Later, Councillor Stanzin visited High School Chushul to review academic progress and infrastructure needs, followed by a meeting with the 142 Brigade Commander. They discussed Army-community collaboration projects and the upcoming ice hockey tournament and Sainik School coaching program, reaffirming their joint commitment to strengthening civil-military relations in the forward areas.
