In Ladakh, Forest Department Kargil celebrated Wildlife Week from 4th to 8th October 2025 with a series of awareness and community participation activities across different ranges and blocks of the district.
In Ladakh, Forest Department Kargil celebrated Wildlife Week from 4th to 8th October 2025 with a series of awareness and community participation activities across different ranges and blocks of the district.As part of the celebration, a plantation drive was organized at Kurbathang Nursery, where the State Tree of Ladakh, Juniper, was planted by the Block Forest Officer Kargil along with the In-charge Principal of Government Polytechnic College Kargil and the students of the college. The event aimed to encourage youth participation in environmental protection and the preservation of Ladakh’s natural heritage.
A similar plantation drive was also conducted at Damsna in the Sankoo Range, reflecting the department’s commitment to greening initiatives and habitat restoration.
In addition, a cleanliness drive was held at Forest R.K. Park Kargil to promote environmental awareness and maintain the park’s natural beauty. The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and forest officials.
During the program, the officials of the Forest Department briefed the students about various plant species, forest management practices, and the rich wildlife diversity of Ladakh. The students of Government Polytechnic College expressed their gratitude to the Divisional Forest Officer and his team for imparting valuable knowledge about the region’s flora and fauna, especially the significance of the State Plant Juniper, which plays an important role in Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem.
The week-long celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to conserve wildlife and protect the environment for future generations.
