5000 medicinal saplings planted at Sowa-Rigpa Phay

LEH: Chairman/CEC, Tashi Gyalson Monday visited the plantation drive at the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa at Phay.

The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa organizes an event for the plantation of trees, millets, and medicinal plants on World Environment Day at the Trans-Himalayan Herbal Garden of the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa.

CEC, Tashi Gyalson was the Chief Guest and Dr OP Chaurasia, Director DIHAR attended as the guest of Honour.

CEC, Tashi Gyalson, inaugurated the event with the planting of willow trees and appreciated the contribution of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa for the conservation of medicinal plants and assured that Hill Council will provide maximum support towards developing and strengthening medicinal plants and Sowa Rigpa Practices for Public Health.

Plantation of medicinal plants will help not only conservation of natural resources but will also provide livelihood and health services to the common people.

He extended his gratitude to the Government of India for their invaluable support in building the thrust on the traditional medicine system of Sowa Rigpa in UT Ladakh.

On this occasion, the Director, of NISR, Leh, Dr. Padma Gurmet stated that this plantation drive was carried out with the participation of the students and staff members of the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, Leh.

Total of 5000 plants with 10 tree species and 45 different types of medicinal plants and other species were planted. It is further added that this activity has been started since International Biodiversity Day May 22.
