, 2025: Executive Councillor (EC) Er. Phunchok Tashi of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, undertook a comprehensive tour of the Cha Block in Zanskar, inaugurating key infrastructure projects, inspecting ongoing developmental works, and engaging with local residents.
During the visit, EC Tashi laid the foundation stone for a new building at Government High School, Thangso, sanctioned at a cost of ₹1.98 crore under the District Capex Budget, to be executed by the R&B Division, Zanskar. Commending the students for their excellent performance during the annual day celebration, he also awarded ₹10,000 to encourage academic excellence.
He further inaugurated a newly constructed four-set staff quarters block at the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC), Cha, built by the R&B Division, Zanskar, at an estimated cost of ₹1.67 crore, to facilitate accommodation for healthcare personnel in the remote region.
Inspecting the Phuktal Shaday Link Road construction, EC Tashi directed officials to ensure timely completion of the project. He also visited the 126 RCC of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at Cha and lauded their “tremendous achievement” in macadamizing 32 km of the strategic Padum–Darcha Link Road this year.
At the Raru Mini Hydel Project, the EC reviewed ongoing repair works, with KREDA Kargil officials informing that the restoration is expected to be completed within a week.
EC Tashi also interacted with monks from Phuktal Gonpa, who requested early administrative approval for ongoing works. The Zanskar Development Authority (ZDA) officials apprised him that two projects—a meditation centre/guest house at Phuktal Gonpa (₹2.49 crore) and a courtyard expansion at Barden Gonpa (₹2.40 crore)—are currently in the tendering stage.
The tour was attended by key officials, including NT Cha Sh. Mohd Jan, BDO Zanskar Sh. Ali Yabgo, Executive Engineer ZDA/R&B Vilayat Ali, and ZEPO Zanskar Sh. Tsewang Dorjay, among others.
The EC reiterated the Administration’s commitment to balanced regional development and urged officers to ensure effective implementation of all works for the welfare of the people of Zanskar.
