Leh: Member, National Commission for Minorities (NCM), Government of India, Rinchen Lhamo visited Tibetan Sonamling Settlement Office today in Leh.
She was welcomed by the Chief Representative Officer (CRO) of Tibetan settlement in Ladakh, Dhondup Tashi, Executive members, officials and other representatives of Tibetan Settlement in Leh.
In his welcome speech, CRO Dhondup Tashi congratulated Rinchen Lhamo on behalf of all the Tibetans for her appointment as a member of the National Commission for Minorities, Government of India. He also appreciated her kind concern for the welfare of Tibetan minorities in Ladakh. He extended his gratitude to the Government of India and UT Ladakh for their constant support in uplifting their social, economic and educational status.
Addressing the meeting, Rinchen Lhamo, chief guest, spoke on the objectives of the National Minorities Commission in safeguarding the interest of minorities and uplifting them with various welfare schemes.
She added that the Minority Commission is always ready to address their grievances and work for their welfare in every possible way. She also spoke on various social, educational and economical schemes for the welfare of the Tibetan community. As a member of the National Commission for Minorities, she assured the Tibetans that she would work for their welfare in every possible way.
The local representatives of Tibetan settlements in Leh, including the representatives from monasteries of Rutok and Karma Drupgyud Choeling, raised various issues to the member of the National Commission for Minorities. She reviewed their grievances and listened to the demands of local representatives of respective Tibetan Settlement camps. Taking note of their issues, Rinchen Lhamo assured them that their issues will be resolved at the earliest.
Later, NCM Member Rinchen Lhamo held a press conference with the media houses and informed them about the purpose of her visit. She shared in detail about the various welfare schemes and scholarships of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, GoI. She stressed that due to lack of publicity and awareness the number of beneficiaries from Ladakh is dismal and added that through the press conference she hoped to reach a wider audience.
She also added that the information booklet in Bhoti language concerning schemes/ initiatives/ scholarships of the Ministry of Minority Affairs would be available soon. She further urged the public to avail the benefits of various schemes applicable for minorities.
