Leh: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, in the presence of Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Leh, Romil Singh; and Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh, Shruti Arora, chaired a meeting today in the Council Secretariat regarding the upcoming Ladakh Marathon 2025.

SP Traffic Leh; Lt. Col. A. Kulshrestha, AAG HQ 14 Corps; representatives from the Indian Army, ITBP, IOCL and PGCIL; Mr. Tsewang Motup, Race Director and Ladakh Marathon Organiser; President, Ladakh Tourism Trade Alliance (LTTA), PT Kunzang; President, All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA), Tsewang Dorjey; President, All Ladakh Hotel and Guest House Association (ALHGHA), Rigzin Wangmo Lachic; and others.
Joint Director of Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain, joined the meeting online and spoke about the possibility of signing an MoU with the Hill Council to ensure wider recognition of the event.
Mr. Tsewang Motup gave a briefing on the journey of the marathon since its inception in 2012, recalling how it began as a symbol of resilience in the aftermath of the 2010 flash floods and has now grown into one of the most recognised high-altitude sporting events in the world. He informed that the 2025 edition will see participation of over 6,500 runners from across the globe, generating significant revenue for Ladakh’s economy and boosting local businesses and tourism. He also highlighted the strong environmental measures being adopted and the role of the marathon in encouraging young local athletes to compete at national and international levels.
The meeting held detailed discussions on logistics, security, medical facilities, traffic regulation, waste management, accommodation, and media outreach. Hon’ble CEC underlined the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the marathon. He directed all departments and agencies to carry out their respective responsibilities in a time-bound manner, stressing on wide press coverage, proper facilities for participants, and effective promotion of the event. He further instructed for close coordination among departments local organisations, and the administration so that the Ladakh Marathon continues to serve as a platform to showcase Ladakh as a global hub for sports and adventure tourism. A follow-up meeting will also be held to review the progress of arrangements.
The official T-shirts and hats for the Ladakh Marathon 2025 were also launched,symbolising the spirit of sportsmanship and participation that the event represents.
