Aranoo, Nubra Valley — A four-decade-old demand turned into reality today as construction officially began on the ₹55-crore motorable bridge at Aranoo Gokma, sanctioned under the CRIF Scheme in 2023. The landmark project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity across the Siachen Belt, benefiting Aranoo, Ayee, Sangyar, Sasoma, and several adjoining villages.
Villagers from Aranoo Gokma, Aranoo Yokma, Sangyar, and Sasoma gathered in large numbers for a traditional ceremony to mark the commencement. Former Councillor Panamik, Sh. Tsering Sandup, who played a key role in securing the project, was honoured with a traditional Kalchor. He ceremonially started the machinery, marking the official launch of the work.
Welcoming the dignitaries, Nambardar Kobet Halqa, Sh. Tsewang Eshey, expressed deep gratitude to Sandup, noting that the bridge had been a long-pending demand for over 40 years. He also acknowledged the BJP Government for supporting developmental initiatives in the region.
In his address, Sh. Tsering Sandup thanked the people for their trust and recalled the challenges faced during the sanctioning process. He highlighted the bridge’s strategic and socio-economic importance, noting that it will:

He also thanked Former MP Sh. Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Former CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson for their support in ensuring the project’s approval.
The event saw participation from Mandal President BJP Panamik Sh. Tsetan Wangail, Nambardars of Kobet and Khemi, members of Gaskit Thundel Tsogspa Aranoo Gokma, representatives from nearby villages, the project contractor, and enthusiastic residents eager to witness the long-awaited moment.
