Leh: The Siachen tourism belt has achieved a major milestone with the completion of the newly developed Panamik Hot Spring Wellness Centre and the formal signing of an MoU between the Leh Development Authority (LDA) and the Women Empowerment Cooperative Ltd., Panamik, for its operation and management.
The project marks the realisation of a vision initiated in 2022 by Former Councillor Panamik, Tsering Sandup, under the 6th LAHDC Leh.
Recognising the immense tourism potential of the Panamik Hot Spring, Sandup pushed the proposal forward, secured administrative backing, and guided the project through its crucial planning stage.
The initiative aims to boost tourism towards the Siachen region while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local women.
The newly built wellness facility has been designed to make efficient use of the natural hot spring, offering modern amenities such as outdoor pools and specialised spa and therapy bathtubs.
The upgraded infrastructure is expected to attract both domestic and international travellers seeking traditional healing experiences in Ladakh.
The MoU was formally handed over by Ghulam, ADC/CEO LDA Leh, to the President of the Women Empowerment Cooperative Ltd., Hot Spring Panamik Nubra, in the presence of Former Deputy Chairman & Former Councillor Panamik LAHDC Leh, the Executive Engineer LDA, JE LDA, and members of the Women Society Panamik.
With this agreement, the Women Empowerment Cooperative Ltd., Panamik, will assume full professional management of the centre, ensuring a women-led model of entrepreneurship and local employment.
The Cooperative expressed gratitude to the 6th LAHDC Leh and the District Administration, with a special acknowledgment of Tsering Sandup for his sustained guidance and support for women’s empowerment.
Following the signing ceremony, representatives met Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director of Sowa-Rigpa, to explore integrating traditional healing practices with the hot spring’s natural properties.
They sought technical guidance to operate the facility in a scientifically sound and professionally managed manner for the benefit of tourists and the local community
