Kargil, October 03, 2025: Government Higher Secondary School, Silmo successfully organised a Career Guidance and Adolescence Awareness Programme for students of classes 9th to 12th under the centrally sponsored scheme Samagra Shiksha. The event brought together experts from diverse fields to engage with students on academic choices, career planning, and adolescent well-being.
The morning session focused on career guidance, with insightful presentations and discussions led by Dr. Niaz Ul Khan, Ph.D. Scholar in Wildlife and Project Incharge of BNHS in Ladakh, who highlighted career opportunities in environmental sciences, wildlife research, and conservation.
Mr. Tsering Dorjay, B.Tech (NIT Mizoram) and Foreman, Mechanical Department, UT Ladakh, shared his personal journey in engineering and motivated students to explore technical education and emerging job sectors.
Students actively interacted with the speakers, gaining clarity on future pathways and skill-based opportunities.
The post-lunch session centred on adolescence awareness and counselling, addressing the emotional and psychological aspects of student life. The session was guided by Gyen Konchok Chinba, Teacher, GHSS Biama, Leh, who counselled students on handling peer pressure, stress management, and the importance of self-discipline through religious perspective.
Mrs. Saldon Shifa, Director of Rzamba NGO, spoke on understanding adolescence, adolescent well-being, healthy relationships, and the role of education in shaping identity, knowledge of opposite genders changes in adolescence through ppt, discussions and activities.
Through group activities and interactive discussions, students were encouraged to reflect on their personal growth and social responsibilities.
The programme was designed with the objective to introduce students to varied career opportunities and guide them in making informed choices, to build confidence and motivation among students to pursue higher studies and vocational careers, to help adolescents understand emotional changes and develop coping skills, to encourage positive peer interactions and promote mental well-being and to integrate Samagra Shiksha’s holistic vision of combining academic guidance with personal development.
At the conclusion, Mr. Nawang Sharap, Vice Principal, GHSS Silmo, expressed gratitude to the speakers, faculty, and students for their active participation. He remarked that the programme was a step forward in creating a supportive learning environment and hoped that the sessions achieved their intended objectives under Samagra Shiksha.
