Middle School Phobrang, Primary School Tselo and Primary School Lukung jointly celebrated their Annual Parents’ Day on 20th September 2025 with great enthusiasm and cultural vibrancy. On this occasion, Middle School Phobrang was formally reopened as a middle school in response to the long-standing demand of the villagers.
Councillor Chushul, Shri Konchok Stanzin, attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Durbuk, Shri Manzoor Ahmad, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The event began with a colourful cultural presentation, including the traditional Solchot performed by the little students.
The Chief Guest and Guest of Honour distributed trophies to meritorious students and also recognised special categories such as cleanliness, punctuality, and discipline. Headmasters and teachers presented a briefing on school activities and performance.
In his address, Councillor Konchok Stanzin appreciated the dedicated efforts of the teachers, led by the Headmasters, in strengthening the schools. He emphasised the importance of promoting and supporting village schools where students learn not only academics but also values from their elders, parents, and grandparents, thereby remaining well-rooted in their culture and community. He urged parents and all villagers to take collective responsibility in strengthening local schools, rather than leaving it solely to parents of enrolled children.
Highlighting the need to nurture hidden talents, the Councillor proposed organising School Olympics at the zonal level to provide platforms for all students, particularly in areas with low enrolment. He also stressed the importance of collective efforts in improving student enrolment in government schools.
ZEO Shri Manzoor Ahmad, in his remarks, shared his commitment to extending full support for the holistic development of schools and recalled his own experiences of working with limited resources while giving his best for student development.
Former Councillor Chushul, Shri Tsering Angchuk, also addressed the gathering and expressed gratitude to the present Councillor and the Education Department for their efforts in reopening Middle School Phobrang.
In a formal ceremony, Councillor Konchok Stanzin along with ZEO Shri Manzoor Ahmad reopened Middle School Phobrang as a middle school, fulfilling a long-pending public demand. The school had been downgraded to a primary school in 2001 when a centralised school was established at Tharuk for the entire Durbuk Block. Villagers wholeheartedly thanked the Councillor for making the reopening possible.
The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Village Nambardar, Headmasters and teachers of High School Urgo, ITBP and ITBF officers, parents, and villagers from Phobrang, Urgo, and Lukung.
