Inaugural Function of Six-Day CME Program on Sowa Rigpa Held in NISR, Leh

Leh: The National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, Leh successfully organized the inaugural function o f a six-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program for Sowa Rigpa teachers and practitioners (Mo) in Leh. The program brings together esteemed Sowa-Rigpa scholars and participants from leading institutions across India, including the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (Sarnath), Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (Leh), Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (Gangtok, Sikkim), Palpung Institute o f Buddhist Sciences and Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute (Darjeeling).
The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries. Prof. Saket Kushwah, Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh, attended as the Chief Guest. The Director, Health Services, Medical Education and AYUSH, UT Ladakh; Dr. Tashi Thinles, along with the Dr. Sonam Deki, Senior Resident Doctor, Ladakh Culture centre, joined as the Guests of Honour.
Renowned scholar and practitioner Dr. Namgyal Qusar, Director, Qusar Tibetan Healing Centre, Dharamshala was present as the Special Guest, lending his expertise and blessings to the occasion.
The CME program is designed to enhance knowledge-sharing, academic exchange, and collaborative learning among teachers and practitioners of Sowa Riga. Over the course of six days, participants will engage in lectures, practical sessions, and discussions on the evolving role of Sowa Rigpa in modern healthcare while preserving its rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director, NISR welcomed the scholars and participants and highlighted the objective and importance of 6-day CME Program to enhance and update the clinical knowledge, research skills and patient care techniques. In his address, the chief guest, hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh emphasized the importance of academic collaboration to strengthen traditional systems of medicine, while also integrating them with modern scientific research. The guests of honour highlighted the importance of CME Program and support of the Ladakh administration in promoting Sowa Rigpa under AYUSH and in preserving Ladakh’s unique cultural identity. The gathering concluded with a note of gratitude to all institutions and dignitaries who have extended their support to the event. The six-day CME program marks a significant step in fostering academic excellence, cultural preservation, and professional development in the field of Sowa Rigpa.
