Kargil: In a major outreach effort, the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, visited the TSG Block to inaugurate key developmental projects and engage directly with local communities. The visit was marked by multiple inaugurations, public meetings, and on-the-spot decisions aimed at accelerating infrastructure development and resolving grassroots-level concerns.
Dr. Akhoon was accompanied by Executive Councillors Zakir Hussain, Mohammad Feroz, and Agha Syed Mujtaba; Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho; Councillors Syed Ali Mosavi and Sajjad Khan; senior engineers and officers from key departments.
During his visit, the CEC inaugurated several infrastructure projects including an additional room at the NTPHC Tambis, constructed at a cost of ₹70 lakh under the District CAPEX Budget. He also opened the newly constructed buildings of Government Middle School Goma Tambis and Government Middle School Lungma Trespone, built at an estimated cost of ₹198.84 lakh and ₹157.10 lakh respectively. These projects were executed by the R&B Division Sankoo. Dr. Akhoon praised the executing agencies for their quality work and particularly appreciated Executive Engineer Agha Syed Mehdi for his sincerity and dedication.
At Tambis, local delegations submitted a series of demands ranging from upgrading the local high school and converting the NTPHC into a PHC to addressing the shortage of doctors, repairing link roads, and constructing public facilities such as a library and multipurpose hall. Dr. Akhoon assured the public that a proposal for upgrading the high school will be submitted under the Samagra Shiksha scheme. He also stated that road macadamisation work has already been proposed under the SDP state sector and that funds for the school ground boundary wall will be considered in the next financial year. He emphasized that all other demands would be addressed in a phased and priority-based manner, keeping available resources in mind.
In Kanoor, locals raised issues related to the upgradation of the local sub-centre, the non-functional irrigation lift scheme, and support for agri-entrepreneurship. The CEC instructed concerned officers to explore all possibilities of reviving the lift canal project and assured that the administration is committed to promoting agriculture-based entrepreneurship in Kargil.
While addressing the concerns of Councillor Sajjad Khan, Dr. Akhoon responded to demands including the creation of a CBSE examination centre, new Anganwadi centres, polling stations, auxiliary sheep centres, veterinary services, and school expansion. He informed that the proposal for a new polling station has already been submitted and is awaiting approval from the Lieutenant Governor. Regarding CBSE school infrastructure, he said land identification is the first step before any proposal under the Samagra scheme. He also assured that funding for the additional school building will be allocated in the CAPEX budget and that administrative reforms will help address the shortage of posts post-UT formation.
In Trespone, the CEC was presented with demands for establishing a BMO Office, staffing at the hospital, appointing a science teacher, constructing a girls’ higher secondary school, and setting up an animal breeding and tailoring centre. Dr. Akhoon informed the public that a recommendation for the BMO Office is already under consideration and directed the Chief Education Officer to address the issue of the science teacher appointment. He also assured that proposals for the girls’ school and other infrastructure would be submitted for approval. He instructed the Forest Department to draft a plan to convert a local forest field into a community park and directed the BDO to ensure garbage collection vehicles operate twice a week.
Councillor Syed Ali Mosavi from Gond Mangalpore and Tambis raised concerns regarding the repair of the main irrigation canal, funding for the Maternal and Child Care Centre, and development of a community graveyard and hall. Dr. Akhoon assured complete support in securing funds and expediting the execution of these works.
At Chaychaythang, locals demanded the replacement of a footbridge with a motorable one, completion of a pending lift irrigation project, a protection wall in landslide-prone areas, and funds for sports equipment. The CEC responded by immediately announcing ₹2 lakh from his untied budget for sports development and committed to installing a submersible water pump soon. He assured the public that all genuine demands raised will be fulfilled in a planned and timely manner.
The visit underscored LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to grassroots development and responsive governance. Dr. Akhoon’s hands-on approach and real-time responses to public grievances were well received across the block, with locals expressing optimism about the positive changes unfolding in the region.
