Leh: In a significant step towards inclusive mobility, the District Social & Tribal Welfare Department, Leh, in collaboration with ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India), Mohali, organised a Motorized Tricycles Distribution Camp at Nari Niketan, IBEX Colony, Leh.
A total of 45 motorised tricycles were distributed to beneficiaries aged 16 and above, each with a minimum of 60% disability. The event was held in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk (IAS), who served as the Chief Guest. Ali Shah, Executive Director of Power Finance Corporation (PFC), was the Guest of Honour.
DC Leh appreciated the efforts of the organisers and reaffirmed the administration’s support for such inclusive initiatives. He urged ALIMCO to ensure the timely servicing and maintenance of the vehicles and encouraged the beneficiaries to freely approach his office for any help they might need.
Suresh Kumar Naidu, General Chief Manager of PFC, highlighted that the drive was part of PFC’s CSR initiative and shared that similar programs have been successfully conducted in other states. He acknowledged the unique challenges faced in Ladakh’s hilly terrain and praised the department for identifying deserving beneficiaries.
Ishwinder Singh, Deputy Manager at ALIMCO, guided the recipients on how to safely operate the tricycles, explaining key do’s and don’ts. Each motorised tricycle, valued at approximately ₹60,000, has a battery range of 42–45 km per charge, aiming to significantly enhance mobility and independence for the users.
The event concluded with the formal handover of the tricycles, marking a meaningful step toward accessibility and empowerment for the differently-abled community in Ladakh.
