Leh: With an objective to convert Ladakh into an organic state by 2025, the agriculture department has been working effortlessly and converted 2500 hectares under large certification under Pramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana Scheme (PKVYS).

Simultaneously, the administration has also expedited the construction of greenhouses by providing 75 percent incentives to farmers in Ladakh, which will ensure adequate availability of vegetables during winter.
Pertinently, PKVYS was launched in 2015, is an extended component of Soil Health Management (SHM) under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA). PKVYS aims at supporting and promoting organic farming, in turn resulting in the improvement of soil health
“The effective implementation of PKVYS was begin after Ladakh become Union Territory on October 31st, 2019,” an official told Indus Dispatch.
He added that the administration has fast tracked the construction of green houses across Ladakh.
He further informed that the administration has also provided 75 percent incentives to 250 units of Ladakh Green House of size 60*24 and 32*18.
DRDO’s Leh-based Defence Institute of High Altitude Research, DIHAR developed Greenhouse technology was transferred to the Ladakh Agriculture Department in 2019. This technology is under implementation as Ladakh Greenhouse Project, in Leh and Kargil Districts.
Agriculture Department is providing 75 per cent financial assistance on green houses in both Leh and Kargil districts. While making Ladakh a carbon neutral as envisioned by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Solar Passive Green House Project is serving the shortage of green vegetables in winters and corroborating with Project MODI of converting UT Ladakh into an organic state by 2025.
He further told Indus Dispatch, the agriculture department has distributed 700 units of the mulching sheet to farmers of Leh district to grow cucurbit crops like watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber, tomato, and others.
“1200 Kanals of cultivable land covered under drip and sprinkler irrigation,” an official said adding that 480 machineries like grass cutter, brush cutter, diesel haul, and power tiller were distributed on 50 percent subsidy.
