Leh: Asserting that the administration is taking several initiatives of developmental activity with focus on Carbon Neutrality, Divisional Commissioner, Saughat Biswas IAS, said that the government is mulling to introduce it in every sector.

 

In an Exclusive conversation with Indus Dispatch, Divisional Commissioner RD, Industries, Transport, Saughat Biswas, IAS. shared insights about initiatives taken so far to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make Ladakh first carbon-neutral Union Territory of India.

E-Vehicles policy

“We have taken the decision to promote electric e-vehicles in the direction to make Ladakh carbon neutral,” he said.

Saughat Biswas said that administration is mulling to introducing e-vehicles in every sector even the government departments.

“This will be resulted into less use of vehicles running on fossil fuels. Moreover, e-vehicles improving and becoming inexpensive with each passing day,” he added.

He further expressed hope in future the common people will easily purchase e-vehicles.

In this regard, Biswas said that Ladakh administration has notified e-vehicle policy and Road Transport Department is parent department for implementation.

“We have also announced incentives on all type of e-vehicles. In first year, the people purchase e-vehicle with subsidy of 20-25 percent,” he said adding that this is good imitative for people who want to buy vehicles.

Helicopter Service

Saughat Biswas, IAS said that helicopter service launched by administration since it became union territory has received overwhelming response.

“Locals and tourists are availing helicopter  service especially during winters at 80 percent subsidy,” he said.  He informed that around 3000 people availed services last year.

He further informed that the service has been opened for tourists. “ We have received overwhelming response from tourists and in coming days the demand will be increased.
