Zanskar,: A training workshop on “Psychosocial Care in Disaster Management for Community Preparedness and Resilience”, facilitated by MoHFW–NIMHANS–NHM Ladakh held at GDC Zanskar in collaboration with Government Degree College, Zanskar and the Community Health Centre, Padum.
The programme began with a detailed presentation on Mental Health by Riyaz Ahmad, RKSK Block Coordinator, Zanskar, who highlighted the significance of psychological well-being in disaster preparedness and recovery. Ms. Fatima Kaneez also delivered an engaging talk that actively involved both students and faculty members, complemented by several hands-on activities to demonstrate practical aspects of psychosocial care.
The speakers further enriched the workshop with presentations on disaster management strategies, focusing on preparedness, response, and the role of counselling in mitigating trauma among affected individuals.
Interactive sessions with students emphasized the importance of psychological support in strengthening resilience.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal, GDC Zanskar, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mohammad Hussain, who acknowledged the contributions of the facilitators and highlighted the value of such initiatives in building a resilient community in Zanskar.
