Kargil: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, (SKUAST-K-1) Kargil celebrated National Farmers Day, also known as Kisan Diwas, under the title Natural Farming and Govt. Schemes at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil.

Executive Councilor Agriculture, LAHDC, Kargil, Mohsin Ali, Chief Agriculture Officer, Mohd Ali Khan, Chief Scientist, KVK, Kargil Dr. Mehdi Akhone, Livestock Development Officer of Animal Husbandry Kargil, Dr. Zakir Hussain, department officers and farmers were present on the occasion.

EC Mohsin extended heartiest greetings to the farmers and said that the day is being celebrated to honour farmers for their contribution towards making a self-reliant nation in terms of food security. He said the farmers are real heroes who produce food and life is sustained due to their efforts.

Mohsin informed the farmers about various subsidy components of the Hill Council Kargil and stressed to take benefit of such schemes to make Ladakh organic.

He said that farmers have played a pivotal role to raise the economy of the nation by increasing crop production and productivity. Chief Agriculture Officer and Livestock Development Officer also informed farmers about various welfare schemes of the government.

Earlier, the EC was briefed about various proven technologies such as low-temperature tolerant vegetables, Jewa Amrit, Drip Irrigation, Mulching Technology and improved hybrid seeds of vegetable crops.

During the event, farmers interacted with the KVK scientist and asked various technical queries which were answered by the scientist satisfactorily.
