Leh, September 17, 2026: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Thursday launched the LG Yuva Internship Programme in Ladakh, aimed at creating a structured platform for youth participation in governance and public service.

The programme will place 2,000 young people across 25 government departments for a three-month internship, providing hands-on exposure to governance, policy implementation, field-level challenges and delivery of government schemes.

Youth from different parts of Ladakh, including Kargil, Changthang, Sham, Nubra, Drass and Zanskar, participated virtually in the orientation programme.

Each intern will receive a monthly honorarium of ₹5,000 during the internship. Based on performance, the internship of selected high-performing candidates may be extended by another three months. Participants will also receive certificates on completion of the programme.

Addressing the orientation workshop, LG Saxena called upon the youth to become active partners in Ladakh’s development, rather than remaining mere beneficiaries of development initiatives.

He said the programme would give young people first-hand experience of how government departments function at the grassroots level, including policy formulation, implementation and public service delivery.

The Lieutenant Governor also urged the interns to view the initiative as more than a three-month assignment or a certificate, and instead use it as an opportunity for learning, professional exposure, innovation and service.

The programme was rolled out on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, observed as Sewa Diwas. Saxena extended birthday greetings to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Ladakh and highlighted the role of youth in the development process.
