The truck, bearing registration number HP72A-3997, was subsequently intercepted by police personnel at Khangral Check Post under the jurisdiction of Police Station Wakha. On inspection, police found two oxen and seven cows inside the enclosed vehicle, with vegetable containers loaded on its rooftop.
A preliminary inquiry revealed that the animals had been transported from Punjab to Kargil without adequate arrangements for their care, including water and fodder, police said.
Police have registered FIR No. 60/2026 under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, at Police Station Wakha.
