Leh, December 18:
Ladakh is steadily emerging as a memorable, responsible and sustainable global tourist destination, Lieutenant Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta said on Wednesday, asserting that tourism growth in the Union Territory is firmly rooted in cultural preservation, community participation and environmental responsibility.
The Lt Governor was speaking at a programme organised by the Department of Tourism for the unveiling of the Destination Ladakh logo, release of the ‘Celebrate Ladakh’ tourism calendar, and launch of the STP Incentive Scheme. He said these initiatives will significantly strengthen Ladakh’s national and global tourism presence.
Unveiling the new tourism logo, Shri Kavinder Gupta said “Destination Ladakh” is not just a visual identity but a platform to showcase Ladakh’s distinct culture, heritage and resilient communities to the world. He noted that the logo reflects a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, symbolising Ladakh’s warmth, dignity and sustainability-focused outlook.
The Lt Governor emphasised that Ladakh’s development roadmap is guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive and sustainable growth, especially for remote and strategically important regions. He said the UT Administration is committed to promoting tourism that generates local livelihoods for youth and women while ensuring environmental balance and year-round tourism.
Highlighting ongoing projects, Shri Kavinder Gupta said major initiatives supported by the Ministry of Tourism are underway, including Swadesh Darshan 2.0 projects in Leh and Kargil, development of Mushkoo Valley, promotion of tribal homestays under PM-JUGA, and upcoming Sound & Light shows at Leh Palace and Kargil, expected to be commissioned in 2026.
The Lt Governor also released the ‘Celebrate Ladakh’ calendar, featuring major festivals for the next three years, aimed at ensuring consistency in tourism promotion. Additionally, he launched the STP Incentive Scheme for environmental protection and the Satellite Phone Procurement SOPs, enabling tour operators to access satellite phones for emergency safety.

Chief Advisor Dr Pawan Kotwal and Administrative Secretary Tourism Sanjit Rodrigues outlined policy measures and promotional initiatives aimed at strengthening Ladakh’s tourism outreach at national and international levels.
The Destination Ladakh logo, created by Team Stringmo (Sisters in Purgi) and inspired by the Bhoti letter “La”, was formally adopted as Ladakh’s new tourism identity.
