Leh, July 02: Department of Zoology Govt. Degree College, Nubra Leh, Ladakh organised a one day tour headed by Dr. Meraj Ud din Hura Assistant Professor (Contractual) Zoology to Yak Breeding Farm and Trout Fish Farm Diskit Nubra on July 1.
Skalzang Dorjee, the officer in charge of Fish Farm Diskit Nubra gave a detailed account of the farm like the introduction of trout seed in Nubra, name of the trout species cultured in the present farm, their feeding and breeding habit and different development stages of Rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus myksis).
He also shared knowledge about induced breeding and its success in the present farm. The students were also briefed about essential prerequisites for opening a new trout culturing unit and employment opportunities in Pisciculture.
Later, the team visited Yak Breeding Farm Diskit and Dr. Stanzin Zadon, Block Veterinary Officer, Diskit, Nubra shared her valuable information regarding cattle breeding in Ladakh and particularly in Nubra. Students also received knowledge about gestation and post calving care of Cow. Also, she briefed the students about parental care of cows and addressed all the queries of students related to parental care in Mammals.
The students appreciated the officers and their team at both the farms for sharing their valuable information.
Dr. Meraj ud Din Hura, from the Department of Zoology on behalf of students expresses heartfelt thanks to the Principal Prof (Dr.) Tsewang Motup for continuously allowing students for such tours and hope will get such subject-related field trips in future also.
