Leh, July 28: In a major push to strengthen educational infrastructure in Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena dedicated 70 Public Libraries—35 each in Leh and Kargil districts—to the people of the Union Territory. While 69 libraries were inaugurated virtually, the Public Library at Trespone village in Kargil was inaugurated in person.
The newly established libraries are equipped with heating facilities, computers, quality books, and dedicated reading spaces, providing students with a conducive environment to prepare for competitive examinations and pursue higher education.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor urged parents, students, and local communities to transform these libraries into vibrant centres of learning, innovation, and community engagement. He said the initiative would empower young people to dream bigger, think creatively, and build a brighter future for Ladakh.
Emphasising the importance of reading, the LG called for nurturing a strong reading culture across the Union Territory, stating that knowledge should become the foundation of Ladakh’s progress. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance access to educational resources and promote lifelong learning among students and the wider community.
