Leh, November 26:
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Shri Kavinder Gupta today called for the accelerated development of modern indoor stadiums, gymnasiums, and recreational facilities across the Union Territory, stressing that Ladakh urgently needs advanced, all-weather sports infrastructure to match the aspirations of its youth and athletic community.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner/Secretary to HLG Dr. L. Franklin, IAS, and DYSSO Leh, Tsering Tashi.

During an interaction with representatives of various sports associations, the Lt Governor said that expanding high-quality indoor sports spaces is vital for public fitness, uninterrupted athlete training, and channeling youth energy into positive, constructive avenues.

Sports associations urged immediate opening of the multipurpose hall for players and recreational users and sought institutional support for Ladakhi athletes preparing for upcoming national events.

Addressing their concerns, Shri Kavinder Gupta reiterated that enhancing indoor sports capacity remains a top priority. Professionally equipped facilities, he noted, not only sharpen athletic performance but also help prevent young people from drifting into antisocial activities by providing structured engagement.

Reaffirming his commitment, the Lt Governor said the UT Administration will continue strengthening and modernising sports infrastructure throughout Ladakh, ensuring local athletes have access to world-class training environments and opportunities to excel.

In separate meetings, a delegation of Bhoti language teachers under the School Education Department’s Samagra Shiksha programme submitted a memorandum to the Lt Governor, while delegations from HDFC Bank and the Himmotthan Society also called on him.
