
Kargil, November 4: In a major boost to the education sector, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, inaugurated the upgradation of Government High School Saliskote to Government Higher Secondary School.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of Member of Parliament (Ladakh) Haji Hanifa Jaan, Executive Councillors Aga Syed Mujtaba and Zakir Hussain, Secretary, Higher Education, Bhanu Prabha, Councillor Sajjad Khan, Councillor Aga Syed Ali, Director Education, UT Ladakh, and several district officials.
In his address, CEC Dr. Akhoon congratulated the students, teachers, and residents of Saliskote, calling the upgradation a “milestone achievement” made possible through joint efforts of the LAHDC Kargil and the UT Administration. He praised Councillor Sajjad Khan for his persistent efforts in realizing this long-pending demand and acknowledged the contributions of former LG Dr. B.D. Mishra and Commissioner Secretary Khirwar in facilitating the project.
Dr. Akhoon reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to strengthening education while ensuring parallel development in sectors like agriculture, horticulture, and tourism for the holistic progress of Kargil.
MP Hanifa Jaan, in his remarks, lauded the initiative and described it as a “significant step toward educational empowerment” for the region. He commended Councillor Sajjad Khan as a dedicated representative devoted to public welfare.
Executive Councillor Zakir Hussain and Administrative Secretary Bhanu Prabha also highlighted the importance of the school’s upgradation and assured continued support from both the LAHDC Kargil and the UT Administration to enhance educational infrastructure in the district.
