Leh: Chairman, Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, chaired a meeting at the Council Secretariat today to review the preparations for the upcoming Muharram scheduled to take place across Leh district.
The meeting was held in the presence of Hon’ble Executive Councillor for Minority Affairs, Ghulam Mehdi, and Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Leh, Romil Singh Donk.
During the meeting, the CEC took a detailed review of departmental responsibilities and instructed all concerned officials to ensure that adequate arrangements are made well in advance for the peaceful and dignified conduct of Muharram events.
He directed the departments to maintain round-the-clock availability of essential services such as water and electricity supply, ensure proper sanitation along congregation routes, deploy sufficient medical teams and ambulances, and put in place effective traffic and crowd management measures.
The Municipal Committee was directed to step up sanitation efforts along major procession routes, while the Health Department was instructed to deploy medical teams at key locations.
The CEC also stressed on the importance of inter-departmental coordination to avoid last-minute gaps in execution.
A few additional requests were placed by the representatives of the religious organisations during the meeting. These included the possibility of a joint visit by officials to key procession routes and a request for a separate meeting with departments for coordination.
A provision for dedicated transport for women participants was also suggested.
The CEC acknowledged the concerns and assured that the Hill Council and District Administration will extend full cooperation, including facilitating joint visits and addressing specific logistical needs wherever feasible.
The Hill Council reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the Muharram commemorations are conducted smoothly, with all necessary arrangements in place to support the religious sentiments and public safety of the community.

Earlier in the day, the CEC convened a meeting at the Council Secretariat to review the arrangements for the 4th CEC Cup Polo Tournament, scheduled to be held from July 15 to 20, 2025, at the historic Shagaran Polo Ground in Chuchot Gongma.
The meeting was held in the presence of Councillor Chuchot Mirza Hussain.
The tournament will commence with an inaugural ceremony on July 15, and is expected to witness enthusiastic participation from various polo teams across the district.
During the meeting, various aspects related to the smooth conduct of the tournament were discussed. Department-wise responsibilities were assigned and timelines for execution were reviewed.
The CEC directed all concerned departments to ensure timely completion of the arrangements, including upgradation of the polo ground, water and power supply, seating and sanitation facilities, veterinary support, and cultural coordination.
CEC stressed the need for close inter-departmental coordination to ensure that all logistical and support arrangements are in place well before the tournament begins.
