Zanskar: The Executive Councilor for RDD, Panchayati Raj, Forest, ZDA, and Information, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Phunchok Tashi, commissioned and dedicated the first-ever Solar Lift Irrigation Scheme to the public at Youlsum, Zanskar.
This marks the successful inauguration of the first solar lift irrigation scheme in the Zanskar Sub-Division. Engineers informed the EC and the gathered villagers that an amount of Rs. 369.74 lakhs under the District Capex Scheme was expended on this project.
The system includes a reservoir tank with a capacity of over 73,000 gallons and a 1,600-meter-long pipeline from the riverbed to the tank in its first phase.
The inaugural function was attended by the Councilor of Karsha Constituency, Mr. Stanzin Jigmat, village Lambardars, and a large number of villagers.
Addressing the gathering, the EC extended his heartfelt congratulations to the villagers for the successful commissioning of the first phase of the lift irrigation system.
He noted that the villages of Teacha-Khasar and Langmi-Rejing have long faced severe irrigation water shortages during the crucial cultivation season.
He also commended the relentless efforts made for the development of his constituency and the broader Zanskar region.
The Councillor of Karsha Constituency expressed his gratitude to the UT Government, LAHDC Kargil, and the EC for sanctioning the scheme.
He further mentioned that the second phase of the project has already been submitted to the government for early fund approval and appealed for the Hon’ble EC’s support in expediting its sanctioning.
