Nubra: In observance of World Environment Day, a collaborative cleanliness drive was conducted on June 3, 2025, by the Rural Development Department, Diskit, Tourism Department, Leh, and the villagers of Hunder.
The drive covered the stretch from Hunder Village to Sand Dunes, Hunder, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Local villagers actively participated in collecting garbage from the area, which was later transported to the Segregation Centre in Hunder for proper disposal and management.
On the occasion, Block Development Officer (BDO) Diskit, Tsewang Nurbo, addressed the participants and emphasized the significance of maintaining cleanliness in and around tourist and residential areas.
He also urged the community to refrain from burning garbage, highlighting that such actions are harmful to the environment and may result in penalties.
Following the drive, Nurbo visited the Segregation Centre at Hunder to inspect its functioning.
