Kargil: Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar on Saturday organized a Historical and Archaeological tour to Rangdum Monastery as a part of Academic curriculum beyond classroom, aiming to acknowledge students about the importance of physical survey of historical sites of Zanskar subdivision and its surroundings.
A group of History Department students participated in the tour under the guidance of faculty member Dr. Mohd Hussain, who accompanied and led the physical survey.
He explained in detail about the scientific conduct of field surveys and data documentation.
Each student was provided with questionnaires and students engaged with respondents to complete their respective questionnaires by interacting with local residents of Rangdum, Phey, Sani, Manda, Rantag shah villages. They recorded and documented valuable information related to their village past history.
In Padum Monastery, they have provided important information on Mural Paintings, Thangka Paintings (canvas paintings), dedicated deities, stupa, mani wheel (mani skor), kangur (Tibetan Canon) etc.
The purpose of organizing this field trip was to deepen their understanding of the local history and train them in the scientific methods of conducting fields surveys and primary data documentation.
