Saboo Dho: Ninety-three households make up the Dezhi community in Saboo Dho, and over fifty of them have been living there permanently for last many years.
They have appointed their first ever Goba (Numbaradar) in a meeting held on April 7, 2025 and felicitated the other day.
Tundup Wangtak was unanimously appointed the Goba of Dezhi and Tsewang Mingyur, Stanzin Gaychot, Dr Sonam Wangchok, Rinchen Dolma, Yangchen Dolma and Sonam Yangzom were appointed members.
The community of Dezhi, comprised of people from Zanskar, Nubra, Changthang, Sham and Leh, entrusted the role of overseeing local matters, development of the community and maintaining order among community members to the appointed members headed by the Goba, Tundup Wangtak.
“The families settled in Dezhi have been migrated from different regions of Ladakh for several reasons and it has become extremely important for us to have a Goba and members to look after the community welfare, call meetings and discussions and take decisions’, said Dr. Sonam Wangchok.
Additionally, he said that all the community members are from various parts of Ladakh and settled at Dezhi for various reasons, and by appointing a Goba, they are keeping alive and continuing the age-old tradition of Goba system in Ladakh.
Speaking to the community members, Goba Tundup Wangtak said that Dezhi had been without Goba for a long time, and as a result, people were dealing with a lot of issues.
He thanked CEC Tashi Gyaltsen, councillor Phyang constituency Tundup Nurboo Cheeta and all concerned departments for various developments accomplished so far. Finally, he urged everyone at Dezhi to stick together and support the Goba system.
Four prosperities are represented by the village name Dezhi (sde-bzhi): the prosperity of spirituality, the prosperity of wealth, the prosperity of (fulfilment of) desire/well-being, and the prosperity of liberation/freedom.
