Free health camps under Rishi Kashyap Swasthya Seva Yatra to provide check-ups, medicines and preventive healthcare awareness

Leh, August 22: Chief Secretary of Ladakh Ashish Kundra on Saturday inaugurated a free medical camp at BVN School, Choglamsar, marking another phase of the Rishi Kashyap Swasthya Seva Yatra aimed at taking healthcare services to remote and far-flung areas of the Union Territory.

The medical outreach is being organised by the National Medicos Organisation (NMO) in collaboration with Ladakh Phanday Tsogspa, with support from Sewa Bharti Gujarat. Around 20 members of the medical team have been divided into groups that will travel to different parts of Ladakh to conduct free health check-ups, distribute medicines and spread awareness about preventive healthcare and healthy living.

Addressing the gathering, Kundra described health and education as key foundations of a progressive society and appreciated doctors and volunteers for travelling to difficult and remote areas to serve local communities.

He urged the visiting teams to use the outreach not only to provide medical assistance but also to interact with residents and understand the distinctive challenges faced by people living in Ladakh’s mountainous terrain.

Highlighting the region’s cultural and geographical diversity, Kundra said the resilience of Ladakh’s people was inspiring. He also stressed the need to strengthen preventive healthcare and ensure that awareness about wellness and healthy lifestyles reaches every section of society.

NMO’s Dr. Ram Prasad said providing medical assistance to people in need was a social responsibility, adding that the yatra goes beyond healthcare by promoting the values of humanity, service and engagement with communities in difficult areas.

Padma Shri Dr. Padma Gurmeet, State President of the Phanday Tsogspa organising team, said the Rishi Kashyap Swasthya Seva Yatra began in Kashmir following the 2014 floods and was subsequently expanded to Ladakh. He said that despite the availability of healthcare facilities in the region, people living in far-flung mountainous areas continue to face challenges in accessing specialised medical services.

Organisation Secretary Balvinder outlined the deployment of medical teams, their group assignments and local coordination arrangements for different areas of Ladakh.

Earlier, Kundra inspected the infrastructure and ongoing development works at BVN School. The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, while students of the school presented a patriotic dance.

The medical teams will now fan out across different parts of Ladakh, taking free consultations, medicines and preventive healthcare awareness closer to communities in remote areas.
