CEC Jaffer Akhoon reviews preparations at Damsna; orders completion of all pending works by August 25

Kargil, August 22: With the Suru Valley Festival 2026 set to begin on August 26, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on Saturday inspected the festival venue at Damsna and reviewed preparations for the major tourism and cultural event.

Dr. Akhoon took stock of arrangements for adventure and mountain activities, cultural programmes, theatre, exhibitions and stalls, besides power supply, backup systems, lighting, public amenities, cleanliness, safety and other logistical requirements.

Officials from the concerned departments briefed the CEC about the progress of works and preparations being undertaken for the festival.

Setting an August 25 deadline, Dr. Akhoon directed departments to work in close coordination and ensure that all pending works at the venue are completed ahead of the festival. He stressed that visitor convenience, safety, infrastructure and cleanliness should remain a priority for the smooth conduct of the event.

The CEC said the festival would provide a vibrant platform to showcase the rich cultural heritage, adventure potential and spectacular landscape of Suru Valley, while further strengthening Kargil’s position as a major tourism destination.

Dr. Akhoon was accompanied by Executive Councillor Altaf Hussain, Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Kargil Rakesh Kumar, ADDC Ghulam Mohammad, Deputy Director Tourism Mohd Taqi, Assistant Director Tourism Mohammad Ali Tak, Councillor Tai Suru, engineers and other district officers.
