LEH: Chairman, CEC, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson visited Tar-Thang, Lamayuru, and Wanla villages of Khaltsi Sub-Division to review preparations ahead of His Holiness the 37th Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang Rinpochey’s visit to Ladakh, and the five-day Drikung Snake Year Teachings scheduled to be held at Lamayuru Photang from May 27 to 31, 2025.

The Councillor Khaltsi Constituency Lobzang Sherab, Lamayuru Constituency Dr. Morup Dorjey and Nominated Councillor Ven. Konchok Tsepal accompanied the tour. The tour began at Tar-Thang, where the CEC inspected the ongoing preparatory works and the site of the Community Hall.

He directed all concerned departments to expedite the work and ensure timely completion of arrangements.

At Lamayuru, the CEC visited the Photang Rawa site, where he conducted a detailed inspection and interacted with monks and local residents near the monastery.

The monks raised several concerns, including the need for a reliable water supply, functional BSNL mobile towers, proper sanitation, and effective traffic and crowd management. They also mentioned the need for temporary accommodation facilities in view of the expected influx of devotees and tourists.

Emphasising that the teachings are being held after a gap of 12 years, the monks expressed hope for full support from all departments to ensure smooth and well-coordinated arrangements.

In response, the CEC assured that all possible efforts are being made to ensure necessary facilities are in place ahead of the event.

Emphasising the significance of the occasion for the region, he directed all departments to work in close coordination to meet the logistical requirements of this large-scale spiritual gathering. He also instructed officials to focus on road preparation, widening, and improving overall connectivity.

Water supply, sanitation, and communication infrastructure, he said, will be prioritised in view of the anticipated footfall. At Wanla, the CEC made a brief stop at Government High School, interacted with the teachers, and reviewed the school’s infrastructure and ongoing progress.

He then visited Wanla Monastery, reiterating the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and to preserving Ladakh’s cultural and spiritual heritage and took stock of the ongoing works.

During a visit at Ursi, the CEC thoroughly inspected the under-construction Vipassana Meditation Centre, stating that the centre will serve as an important spiritual retreat in the future, while interacting with people the villagers extended gratitude to CEC, Leh for all the support extended till date.

At Hinju village, he held a public interaction during which residents appreciated the development works carried out in recent years. They thanked the CEC and earnestly appreciated his efforts in personally visiting Hinju and monitoring the progress of works on the ground.

During the interaction, the villagers also put forward a few requests related to local infrastructure and public services, and held a brief discussion with the CEC regarding their needs and concerns, later visited Hinju Gonpa to oversee the preparation for H.H Chetsang Rinpoche visit.

The CEC was also accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner Development Leh, Superintending Engineer PWD Leh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Khaltsi, Executive Engineers of Public Health Engineering Division Leh, I&FC Division and R&B Khaltsi; Block Development Officer Khaltsi, Divisional Engineer BSNL Leh, and Assistant Executive Engineer PDD Khaltsi and various other officials. The tour reflected the H’CEC resolve to ensure that the grand spiritual gathering takes place smoothly, backed by efficient planning and robust infrastructure.
