Kargil : Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, visited the Eastern Portal of the Zoji-La Tunnel today to review the progress of ongoing construction work.
Accompanied by site engineers, the LG entered the tunnel to assess the status of excavation. Project engineers briefed him that only 1.7 km of tunnel excavation remains and the entire project is expected to be completed by 2028.
During his interaction with the workforce, LG Kavinder appreciated their dedication and perseverance in executing the tunnel work under tough conditions. He encouraged them to maintain the same momentum until completion.
Speaking to engineers and media, the LG emphasized that the Zoji-La Tunnel is a visionary project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Once completed, it will significantly boost tourism in Ladakh and enhance regional connectivity with the rest of the country.
Highlighting its strategic importance, he said the tunnel would lead to economic and socio-cultural integration of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. “The completion of this project will open a new chapter of development in the region,” he stated.
