In a vibrant celebration of community spirit and cultural unity, Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Phunchok Tashi, inaugurated the newly constructed Community Hall at Gonyok Sani and Monks’ Stay Facility (Shak) at Khar Sani, both executed by the Rural Development Department (RDD), Zanskar.
The twin inaugurations marked another milestone in the region’s grassroots development journey, making it the third community hall completed in the Sani area — following those at Sou and Sani villages.
The occasion was graced by BDO Zanskar Ali Yabgo, Executive Engineer ZDA/R&B Er. Vilayat Ali, AEE REW Madam Fiza Bano, local officers, Lambardar Thinlay, and a large gathering of monks, villagers, and community leaders. Adding a cultural flavour to the ceremony, noted Ladakhi artist Phunsok Ladakhi enthralled the audience with a soulful performance.
In his address, EC Phunchok Tashi lauded the collective effort behind the project, calling it “a space that will unite people, preserve tradition, and strengthen the spiritual bond of the community.” He noted that the community hall would serve as a venue for cultural events and social gatherings, while the monks’ stay facility at Khar would provide a peaceful abode for resident monks.
Expressing gratitude to the UT Administration, LAHDC Kargil, and executing agency, the EC appreciated the timely completion of the projects within a single working season under the supervision of contractor Stanzin Tsultim.
Highlighting the ongoing development initiatives in Sani, Zanskar, he mentioned several key works, including:
Link Road (Khar to Namkasesa) — ₹2 crore
Walling around Sani Lake — ₹1.5 crore
Community Hall at Gonyok — ₹1.2 crore
Sheep Shelter Project — ₹30 lakh
Multiple CCDA projects at Chomo Gonpa, Khar, Sou, and Sani villages
On behalf of the local community, Lambardar Thinlay extended heartfelt thanks to Er. Phunchok Tashi for fulfilling long-standing demands and bringing visible change to the region.
The ceremony concluded with traditional prayers and expressions of gratitude. The atmosphere brimmed with joy as villagers celebrated this new milestone — a symbol of unity, cultural preservation, and progress under the leadership of Er. Phunchok Tashi.
