Kargil: A cleanliness drive was organized today in Zanskar Sub Division on the occasion of World Environment Day under the aegis of Zanskar Administration, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department in collaboration with Zanskar Conservancy Movement.
In the cleanliness drive, officers with their subordinates, students of Govt. Model Degree College Zanskar, Govt. Higher Secondary School Zanskar, Lamdon Model High School Pipiting, Duzin Photang High School Ufti Zanskar, villagers of Padum and volunteers of various organizations and societies participated in the drive.
The drive started from Tourist Dak Bunglow Padum. The garbage/waste was lifted to the segregation plant setup by the RD&PRD. To lift the garbage to the segregation plant, vehicles were provided by NHIDCL and other local contractors.
An awareness camp/function was also organized during the event which was participated by public to celebrate the World Environment Day and cleanliness drive.
During the function, many scholars highlighted how to save the environment and stop climate change in the region.
BDO Zanskar informed the gathering that the department will ensure door-to-door garbage from tomorrow as per the fixed roadmap for which a household have to pay Rs 50 while shopkeepers and hoteliers have to pay Rs 100 per month.
On a trial basis, dust bins were distributed among shopkeepers of Padum by the RD&PRD. It was informed that in the future, dust bins will also be provided to every household in and around Padum area. A cultural program was also present during the function.
Similarly, on World Environment Day, a cleanliness drive was also held in various areas of Block TSG in collaboration with all the departments of the Block under the supervision of Naib Tehsildar TSG.
BDO TSG along with all the staff, Naib Tehsildar and Niabat Staff, Principal HSS School Trespone and staff, Medical Officer NTPHC Trespone along with health workers and staff of Animal/Sheep Department, representative of Agriculture Department, representative of Kendriya Vidyalaya School Trespone took part in the drive.
