Leh: Chairman, Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, attended the World Blood Donor Day program as the chief guest at SNM Hospital Leh.

Also present was nominated Councillor Sanga Community, Ven. Konchok Tsepal. The event was organized by Khamsde Jabstok Welfare Society in collaboration with SNM Hospital, aiming to raise awareness on the importance of voluntary blood donation.

The program commenced with the inauguration of a newly procured Component Separation Equipment by CEC.

This advanced equipment will enhance the shelf life of stored blood, ensuring better utilization and management of blood resources.

The event featured a brief session highlighting the importance of blood donation, attended by Dr. Tashi Thinles, Director of Health Services Leh; Dr. Dolma Chuskit, Chief Medical Officer Leh; Dr. Rinchen Chosdol, Medical Superintendent Leh; Dr. Yangchan, State Nodal Officer for Blood Center and Pathologist Leh; senior consultants, along with members of Alamdar Health Society, Blood Donors Association, Khamsde Jabstok Welfare Society, other associations, medical staff, and voluntary donors.

CEC Tashi Gyalson presented certificates to the donors, appreciating their selfless contribution towards helping people.

Addressing the gathering, he extended gratitude to all donors and emphasized that blood has no artificial substitute, making voluntary donation the only way to help patients in need.

Highlighting the importance of such awareness programs, the CEC underlined the need to dispel long-standing myths and misconceptions surrounding blood donation in Ladakh.

He stressed that many people still refrain from donating due to misinformation and unfounded fears, and emphasized the role of education and awareness campaigns in building public confidence.

Citing the theme of the event, “Give Blood, Give Hope, Together We Save Lives,” he encouraged the public to come forward and donate blood regularly, also mentioning the personal health benefits associated with blood donation.

He appreciated the efforts of organizations such as the Blood Donors Association, Alamdar Society and Khamsde Jabstok Welfare Society for their ongoing work and urged them to continue spreading awareness.

The CEC also highlighted that since Ladakh attained Union Territory status, the health sector has seen increased funding and focused efforts towards capacity-building and skill enhancement of medical staff.

He expressed deep appreciation for the dedication of the entire medical fraternity in providing healthcare services despite limited infrastructure.

In a symbolic gesture to promote blood donation, CEC Tashi Gyalson himself donated blood at the center, setting an example for the community.
