LEH, JUNE 16: Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Shri Bhupesh Chaudhary, on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess preparations for the proposed visit of the Hon’ble Vice President of India to the Union Territory of Ladakh in connection with the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 celebrations.

The meeting reviewed the preparedness of various departments and agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the high-profile visit and the successful organisation of International Yoga Day events in Leh.

Detailed discussions were held on security arrangements, venue readiness, transportation, accommodation, protocol requirements, traffic management, medical preparedness, power supply, identity card issuance and other key logistical aspects.

Reviewing the action plan, Shri Chaudhary sought updates on participant registration, expected turnout and lessons learned from previous editions of International Yoga Day celebrations. He emphasised the importance of meticulous planning, seamless inter-departmental coordination and timely execution of all arrangements to ensure a safe, inclusive and well-organised event.

The Secretary directed the Public Works Department, Rural Development Department and other concerned agencies to ensure that all venue infrastructure, including sanitation facilities, washrooms and drinking water points, is fully operational and maintained to the highest standards. He also reviewed arrangements related to participant kits, yoga mats, refreshments and transportation facilities.

Special focus was laid on maximising participation from students, educational institutions and personnel from the Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and other security agencies. Shri Chaudhary instructed departments to coordinate transportation and logistical support while ensuring the availability of trained yoga instructors and volunteers for the smooth conduct of the programme.

The meeting further reviewed stage management, seating plans, public address systems, ceremonial proceedings, cultural programmes and arrangements for visiting dignitaries. The Secretary also directed officials to showcase the achievements of Ladakh’s sportspersons associated with the Khelo India initiative and explore opportunities to honour their contributions during the event.

Deputy Commissioner Leh briefed the meeting on the proposed stage layout, programme sequence, seating arrangements and other logistical preparations, assuring that all departments are working in close coordination to ensure the successful celebration of International Day of Yoga 2026.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Leh, Chief Engineers of PWD and PDD, representatives from the Police, ITBP, School Education Department and other concerned departments and agencies.
