Kargil, November 7: The Union Territory Disaster Response Force (UTDRF), Kargil Unit, conducted a comprehensive mock drill and demonstration exercise at Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil, simulating a Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) operation in response to an earthquake and air raid scenario.
The exercise, supervised by SP UTDRF Ladakh, Shri Govind Rattan (JKPS), and led by DySP UTDRF Kargil, Shri Asif Mustafa (JKPS), saw enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students of GDC Kargil.
UTDRF personnel demonstrated advanced rescue operations, including casualty evacuation from collapsed structures using stretchers, rope systems, and other specialized rescue gear. The team also conducted live demonstrations on first aid, CPR, and basic emergency response techniques such as splinting, sling preparation, and makeshift blanket making, aimed at enhancing community disaster preparedness.
Addressing the gathering, SP Govind Rattan emphasized the importance of readiness, coordination, and public awareness in effective disaster response. Principal GDC Kargil expressed gratitude to the UTDRF team for the valuable and practical training session.
Later, SP Govind Rattan and DySP Asif Mustafa visited the family of UTDRF Martyr Constable Mohammad Raza at Karkitchoo, Kargil, to pay homage to his sacrifice. Constable Raza lost his life during a rescue operation in Drass in July 2023, exemplifying courage and selfless service in the line of duty.
