Leh, Feb 12: In a significant step towards strengthening the fight against drug abuse, executives and officials of various transport unions of Leh district visited the District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) at Dambuchan on Tuesday. The visit was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh, Ghulam Mohd (JKAS), along with Additional Superintendent of Police Leh, Rigzen Sangdup (JKPS).
During the visit, members of the transport unions were briefed about the functioning of the de-addiction centre and the challenges faced in its day-to-day operations. Officials highlighted the growing need for community participation in combating substance abuse and ensuring effective rehabilitation of affected individuals.
Representatives from several transport bodies, including Ladakh Taxi Operators, Ladakh Bus Operators, Medium Bus Operators, 207 Load Carrier Union, Mini Truck Operators, Bike Rental Union and Maxi Cab Operators, appreciated the district administration’s efforts in tackling the menace of drug addiction in society.
As a mark of support and appreciation, the transport unions also made voluntary contributions to assist in the smooth functioning of the centre. The representatives expressed their commitment to supporting awareness initiatives and promoting a drug-free society in the region.
Officials reiterated that community cooperation and stakeholder participation play a vital role in addressing the issue of substance abuse and strengthening rehabilitation mechanisms across the district.
