Leh, October 31:
The Department of School Education, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with IISER Pune, concluded a three-day District Level Cascade Workshop on Science and Mathematics Education with a vibrant valedictory ceremony at DIET Leh on October 31, 2025.
Held from October 29 to 31, the workshop brought together over 110 science and mathematics teachers from across Leh district for intensive training focused on inquiry-based learning, contextual pedagogy, and hands-on teaching strategies. Expert facilitators from IISER Pune and the Education Department, Leh, guided sessions emphasizing the integration of local knowledge with national curricular goals.
The valedictory event was graced by the Hon’ble Secretary, School Education Department, UT Ladakh, Ms. Bhanu Prabha (IAS), along with distinguished IISER Pune faculty — Ms. Shivani Pulse, Ms. Zahida Sheikh, and Ms. Pallavi Sherwali — and Head, DIET Leh, Ms. Sonam Lamo.
In her keynote address, Secretary Ms. Bhanu Prabha underscored the importance of teacher empowerment in transforming education across Ladakh. She lauded the workshop’s role in fostering innovation in classroom teaching and emphasized the need for contextualized training aligned with the region’s cultural and ecological realities.
Teachers shared reflections on their learning experiences, highlighting the value of activity-based and culturally responsive teaching. Certificates were distributed, and follow-up plans for mentoring and peer collaboration were announced.
A heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Chetna Sharma, Senior Lecturer, DIET Leh, who acknowledged the collective efforts of the Department, IISER Pune, and participating teachers. As a token of appreciation, the resource persons were felicitated by the Secretary for their invaluable contributions.
The workshop marked a key step in Ladakh’s ongoing mission to strengthen teacher capacity and enhance science and mathematics education across schools.
