Kargil: Heavy rainfall lashed Khawos Charkat Nalla on the evening of August 12, following an unusual rise in temperature, triggering debris flow that blocked the main link road to the village.
Acting on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS), SDM Sankoo, accompanied by officials from multiple departments, rushed to the site to assess damage and oversee relief efforts. Large portions of private land were buried under mud, boulders, and uprooted trees, while irrigation channels suffered extensive damage.
Treating the matter as urgent, the SDM deployed heavy machinery from the Mechanical Department, PMGSY, private contractors, and Topline to clear the debris. With support from government agencies and local volunteers, road connectivity was restored by 2:00 AM the same night.
Councillor Parkachik praised the swift and coordinated response of the district administration, field officers, and volunteers. The SDM has directed all departments to conduct a detailed damage assessment and submit reports at the earliest.
