Kargil: A 9-day residential Swavalamban Silai capacity-building program was today inaugurated at Government Degree College, Kargil by Executive Councilor, LAHDC Kargil, Mohsin Ali.

The program is being organized by USHA International Limited and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and implemented by Ladakh Craft and Design Skill Centre, GDC Kargil.

EC Mohsin, who was chief guest on the occasion, in his address congratulated the college skill centre team for initiating such a progressive endeavour in favour of the women folk of Kargil. He also promised to extend his support in successful completion of the program.

ALC Kargil Razia Khatoon, State Manager, Usha International Limited Jammu and Kashmir/Ladakh Shaista Ayoub, Sameena Rasool and Rukhana Ali, trainers of the capacity building program were also occasion on the occasion.

Coordinator of Ladakh Craft and Design Skill Centre, GDC Kargil, Dr Javed Iqbal Naqi, presented welcome address. It was followed by formal welcome of the guests with traditional khataqs presented by Dr Naqi.

Razia Khatoon appreciated the initiative and called upon the participants to make use of the platform to become successfully entrepreneurs in the sector.

Shaista Ayoob gave an overview of the program and talked about scopes of the program that would enable the women trainees to be self-reliant and empowered. The program will have three components: machine repairing, life skill training and sewing and stitching.

The program was moderated by Dr Azra Khatoon, Assistant Professor GDC Kargil while Prof. Archo Fatima Nissa, Assistant Professor presented vote of thanks.

The hospitality and protocol committee led by Amjad Hussain, Assistant Professor, and Yaseen Ahmad, Physical Director provided the logistic support.
