Kargil, April 13: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, on Monday conducted a visit to the bustling Kargil town market, engaging directly with traders, locals and key stakeholders to assess pressing civic and commercial challenges affecting daily life and business activity.
The visit was undertaken in the presence of Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Kargil, Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Mohd Haneefa Jan, and President of JUAIK, Sheikh Nazir-Ul-Mehdi.
During a walkthrough of the market lanes, the Lieutenant Governor interacted with traders and residents, gaining first-hand insight into the issues hampering smooth commercial operations and urban management. Traders flagged multiple concerns, particularly the shortage of parking space, persistent traffic congestion, and the lack of adequate public utilities, especially in light of increasing tourist footfall in the town.
Taking serious note of the grievances, the Lieutenant Governor directed the Deputy Commissioner to prepare a comprehensive and time-bound action plan aimed at addressing the key challenges. The proposed plan will prioritise the development of parking infrastructure, improved sanitation, creation of public conveniences, and an overall aesthetic upgrade of the market area.
He further instructed the Chief Secretary to closely monitor the implementation of the proposed measures and ensure that all identified issues are resolved in a timely and efficient manner.
Reaffirming the administration’s vision, the Lieutenant Governor stated that sustained efforts will be made to transform Kargil into a leading tourist destination, with improved infrastructure and enhanced visitor experience at its core.
