Leh, November 02, 2025: The Stok Micro Watershed buzzed with community energy as villagers celebrated the Watershed Mahotsav under the WDC-4 Chuchot–Thiksey project of PMKSY WDC 2.0, highlighting significant strides in natural resource management and livelihood enhancement.
The event marked the Lokarpan of key watershed development works benefiting every household in Stok, including reservoir-cum-percolation tanks and upgraded irrigation khuls—initiatives aimed at improving water availability and supporting local agriculture. The community also participated in the Bhumi Pujan for the newly launched Springshed Rejuvenation Project, led by the village’s religious head Lamaji, setting the stage for conservation, afforestation, and soil-stabilisation activities.
A strong sense of ownership was visible among participants, including BDO Chuchot Ghulam Mohammed Mir, the Nambardar of Stok, watershed committee members, WDT staff, SHG representatives, schoolteachers, and students.
As part of livelihood promotion, handloom weaving machines were distributed to SHG women, bolstering income-generation opportunities. Schoolchildren added cultural vibrance with dances, songs, and a quiz competition focusing on water conservation—echoing the message, “Khet ka paani khet mein, gaon ka paani gaon mein.”
Project Officer and IWMP Nodal Officer Ms. Shenaz briefed the gathering on ongoing works under production, livelihood, and Springshed rejuvenation components, stressing the importance of community participation and inter-departmental coordination.
Addressing the event as Chief Guest, the BDO Chuchot praised the watershed team and villagers for their collaborative efforts, essential for sustainable development in water-scarce areas. The Nambardar of Stok expressed gratitude for the progress achieved and urged continued support for the village’s development.
The Mahotsav concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthen water security, protect natural resources, and empower local communities—reinforcing Stok’s emergence as a model for participatory watershed development in Ladakh.
