Leh: The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh, launched a three-day reorientation training program for Sowa-Rigpa practitioners, aimed at strengthening indigenous healthcare practices.
The program was inaugurated with the participation of experts in traditional medicine, public health, and wellness. Chief guest Ashok Kumar Varshney from Arogya Bharti, along with guests Tsetan Dorji Sadutshang (personal physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama), Phuntsog Angehuk (former AYUSH Director, J&K), and Sanjeevan Kumar (Arogya Bharti, North and Rajasthan) attended the event.
NISR Director Padma Gurmet outlined the vision of the institute and its ongoing Tribal Health Care Research Project (THCRP). He stressed the importance of scientific training to preserve Sowa-Rigpa’s authenticity while making it relevant in today’s healthcare system.
Tsetan Dorji Sadutshang called for deeper collaboration between Sowa-Rigpa and modern medicine to improve patient care, while Ashok Kumar Varshney emphasized the shared goals of traditional Indian medical systems, especially in preventive and lifestyle-based health approaches.
The training includes lectures, case studies, and hands-on sessions to enhance clinical and diagnostic skills among practitioners.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Associate Professor Tashi Stobgais.
