Leh: The Directorate of Social Welfare Department organised a one-day workshop under Poshan Abhiyan, ICDS at Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra (SSK), Leh under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk. The workshop focused on Saksham Anganwadi Centres (AWC), Poshan 2.0, Poshan Panchayat and Poshan Vatika.

Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk instructed the concerned officers to submit a report on the deliberations held during the workshop, detailing the issues faced by the ICDS centres, Anganwadi workers and helpers, to ensure that the matters are taken forwards.

Deputy Chairman Angchuk assured to provide all the necessary support from the Council to resolve the issues faced at ICDS centres by the AWW and AWH and the problems under decentralised nutrition procurement at the panchayat level to ensure that the central scheme of Poshan Anbhiyan is smoothly implemented in the district.

Earlier, District Planning Officer, ICDS, Tsering Paldan highlighted the importance of Poshan Abhiyan which aims to reduce under nutrition and other related issues in targets groups such as, children below six years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. He also spoke about the significance of observation of Poshan Maah and Poshan Pakhwada and the role of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers in achieving the goals of Poshan Abhiyan.

During the workshop, an intensive discussion regarding the decentralised nutrition procurement at the panchayat level was held in which Chairperson, Panchayat Coordination Committee, Sarpanches and panches of various villages put forward their grievances and demands.

Medical Officer, ICDS, Dr Padma Angmo presented a detailed presentation on the nutritional status of children in the district and spoke about the various health activities initiated at the AWCs apart from growth monitoring of children below six years.

Detailed power-point presentations on Saksham AWC, Poshan Panchayat and Poshan Vatika were presented by Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) of Nyoma, Kahru and Leh respectively.

On the occasion, a food mela was also organised where stalls with an array of local traditional and nutritious foods were displayed.

Nutritionist Rigzin spoke on the importance of healthy local food and Chairperson Panchayat Coordination Committee also addressed the gathering.

During the workshop, a Poshan pledge was also administered to all the Anganwadi Workers, helpers and everyone else present.

The one-day workshop was attended by Chairperson of different Block Development Councils; ICDS Officers; CDPOs; sarpanches and panches of various villages; AWWs and AWHs and the concerned departmental officials and staff.
