Leh: The Department of Social and Tribal Welfare, UT Ladakh issued fresh guidelines for the recruitment of Anganwadi Workers/Anganwadi Helper.

The Guidelines for recruitment of Anganwadi Worker and Anganwadi Helper issued by the erstwhile Department of Social & Tribal Welfare, Government of J&K, has been modified in keeping with the national guidelines issued by the Ministry of Women and Child Development under Mission Poshan. The eligibility criteria include Resident Certificate, age between 18-35 years, and educational criteria as 12th pass for Anganwadi Worker and Matriculate for Anganwadi Helper. There is a provision to relax the educational qualification wherever such candidates are not available. The retirement age has been kept at 65 years.

Preference is given to Widows, Separated and Divorced women as well as to women belonging to BPL families. The Selection Committee shall be headed by the District Programme Officer and shall have the female Panch member/concerned BDC or Municipal Committee representative as a member besides Officers of the Social Welfare Department, Health Department, and Education Department.

As part of the drive to build the capacities of field functionaries and to give them exposure to best practices from other parts of the country, the Department of Social & Tribal Welfare has organized training of the Anganwadi Workers of Leh and Kargil at the National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development, NIPCCD Mohali, Punjab. 120 Anganwadi Workers have undergone 15 days of training since October 2022 and 180 Anganwadi Workers are scheduled to undergo training at NIPCCD till December 30th.

There are 1139 Anganwadi Centres in Ladakh and one Anganwadi Worker and One Anganwadi Helper are appointed in each Anganwadi Centre. The UT share of the monthly honorarium of the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers was doubled from April this year vide order no 19 /STW/UTL of 2022 dated 05.04.2022.
