The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, on Saturday described the Sindhu Festival as a powerful symbol of India’s civilizational roots, cultural continuity, and national unity, deeply connected with the sacred land of Ladakh through which the historic Sindhu (Indus) River flows.
The Lt Governor made these remarks while meeting a delegation of the Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti, led by its General Secretary Shri Bhupinder Kansal, to discuss preparations for the proposed Pratham Sindhu Kumbh 2026 to be held at Leh.
During the meeting, the delegation briefed the Lt Governor about the vision and scale of the 30th Sindhu Darshan Utsav, which will be commemorated as the Pratham Sindhu Kumbh—a landmark spiritual and cultural congregation on the banks of the sacred Sindhu River. Kansal informed that the event is expected to witness participation of VVIPs, dignitaries, religious leaders, and thousands of yatris from across India and abroad, making it one of the largest spiritual gatherings ever organised in Ladakh.
The Samiti outlined key logistical and administrative requirements for the event, including accommodation, transportation, security, medical facilities, sanitation, traffic management, lighting, seating arrangements, and infrastructure development at Sindhu Ghat. The delegation also highlighted the inclusive and pluralistic nature of the festival, with plans for multi-faith prayers reflecting India’s unity in diversity.
Appreciating the efforts of the Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti, the Lt Governor assured full support from the Ladakh Administration for the smooth conduct of the Pratham Sindhu Kumbh. He emphasised the need for close inter-departmental coordination to ensure that the mega event is safe, well-organised, and environmentally responsible.
Shri Kavinder Gupta underscored that the Sindhu Festival is not merely a religious or cultural celebration but a living symbol of Bharat’s timeless civilizational ethos and national integration. He added that the Pratham Sindhu Kumbh 2026 has the potential to significantly promote spiritual tourism, cultural awareness, and Ladakh’s global identity.
