Leh: The Directorate of Sheep Husbandry, Ladakh, reviewed its first year of progress in a brainstorming session at the Changthang Breeding Farm (CBF), Stakna, focusing on boosting pashmina production, improving livestock breeding, and strengthening services at the grassroots level.
Chaired by Director Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, the meeting brought together sectoral officers and farm in-charges led by District Sheep Husbandry Officer Leh, Dr. T. Morup.
Key achievements highlighted included the installation of a modern pashmina dehairing plant to strengthen Ladakh’s pashmina value chain, reassessment of sheep and goat breeding policies to enhance productivity, and infrastructure upgrades at block and village levels to improve field services.
The directorate also noted progress in human resource development, with backlog clearances and timely promotions of staff marking a significant administrative step forward.
Deliberations focused on stabilising farm livestock parameters, ensuring time-bound collection of reliable productivity data, and prioritising training and orientation for in-service veterinarians in the coming months.
Officials said the session reaffirmed the department’s commitment to driving pashmina growth and overall livestock productivity across the Union Territory.
