Sheep Husbandry Deptt holds Sheep breeders’ conference at Latoo

Kargil: The Sheep Husbandry Department, Kargil Saturday organized a Sheep Breeders’ Conference under National Livestock Mission (NLM) 2022-23 at Latoo village in Kargil.

 

During the event, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr Niyaz-ul-Hassanain informed the villagers about the objective of conducting the Sheep Breeders Conference and also threw light on the achievements, future plans and schemes of the department.

 

He said that the department is working hard to implement all the schemes on ground level for the welfare of the breeders to make them unique and financially independent.

 

He also asked the farmers to preserve biodiversity. Dr Niyaz urged the breeders to share their ideas and thoughts to increase the population of livestock in the area.

 

He said that the mission is aimed to preserve animal genetic resources, conserve indigenous breeds, protect, strengthen and improve livestock, and create employment opportunities and livelihood support for women and other marginalized groups.

 

Furthermore, he assured the breeders to organize an exposure tour within the district and also assured to provide tents from the department.

 

During the event resource persons from the allied department also spoke on the potential of fish rearing, plants suitable for cultivation in water scarcity areas, importance of Karakul breed, dosing, vaccination, disease management of sheep etc.

 

Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Society, Kargil Dr Zakir Hussain, Assistant Director Fisheries Kargil, Murtaza Ali, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr Mohd Ismail, Divisional Forest Officer, Mohammad Ali, Project Director KREDA Kacho Ahmad Khan, Officers from Horticulture and other departments informed about various schemes of their department. Doctors, experts from allied departments, PRI’s and progressive breeders attended the event.
